UPDATE @ MY CHESS

I wanted to share with you the results so far and generally provide and update on my activies on My Chess at Facebook. In fact, if this idea works out, I may make it a norm to post such updates every weekend.

As of now, I have 9 tournaments running.

These are
    1. Kan!!!!!!!
      • Players 8
      • Games completed 14 out of 14
      • Score 14
      • Have already won this tournament but will have to wait for a few of the games of the rest of the players to get over
2. Ranzone Tour 1
      • Players 4
      • Games completed 0 out of 3
      • Score 0
      • In progress - Should win all three
3. Magic Flute
      • Players 10
      • Games completed 6 out of 9
      • Score 5.5
      • Should be able to win the tournament easily
4. MY Chess Championship
      • Players 10
      • Games completed 11 out of 18
      • Score 11
      • Shouldn't face any problems in winning this Championship
5. November Soiree
      • Players 10
      • Games completed 14 out of 18
      • Score 13.5
      • Shouldn't face any problems in winning this Tourney
6. Ranzone Tour 2
      • Players 10
      • Games completed 12 of 18
      • Score 12
      • Shouldn't face any problems in winning this Tournament

Three other tournaments have just started - Holiday Tourney with 10 players, and Kenneth Smith and Play Chess with 8 players each. So that makes it 9 tournaments.

So far I have completed 61 games, out of which I have won 57, drawn 2 and lost 2. And I have 68 games in progress, with 100% reliability. My current rating is 1591.

An Easy Game

Educative Chess

I came across this article while surfing the net. Check it out, it is so meaningful.

Dresden Chess Appeal to the Schools of the World

Methodical chess instruction integrated into school curriculum supports children’s intellectual growth:

Chess makes kids smarter!

Children receiving instruction in chess learn:

- to focus their attention and to retain high degree of concentration

- to mentally visualize positions and sequences of moves

- to train their memory

- to think ahead, plan their activities in advance

- to reevaluate, once situation changes

- to develop patience, thoughtfulness and originality

- to weigh options

- to assess the results of their actions

- to develop stamina, determination and social skills*

Such attainments also improve their grade-point average in other school subjects.

For primary schools we recommend:

I.

Introduction of 45 Minutes methodical chess instruction per week in the curriculum of elementary schools in the first grade.

II.

From the second grade onwards, the conversion of one class in mathematics into a chess class, thus bringing instruction in chess to 90 minutes a week.

III.

The methodical instruction in chess should last for two to four school years starting as early as possible; that is, beginning with the first grade.

The first playful encounter with chess can commence in kindergarten.

IV.

A gradual further development of chess instruction:

The first step in introducing chess into schools can be managed by the existing teaching staff although an introductory period of training would be necessary. As personal suitability is paramount, the instructors must not be chosen merely on the basis of their subject-specific qualifications – the benefit of chess instruction stands and falls with the personality of the teacher.

Facebook

I had joined up on Facebook out of sheer curiosity. I wanted to know what was hooking so many people on to Facebook all day long. Initially I found it boring as i didn't know anyone there. But gradually i started exploring the different options and also started making friends. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Wordscraper there, and then i found MY CHESS, and i was HOOKED.

So far i have completed 41 games, Won 37, Drawn 2 and Lost 2, and my current rating as per My Chess is 1511 from an initial Newbie rating of 1000.

I am playing in six tournaments simultaneously and it seems like i am doing pretty good. My target at My Chess is to get to the highest rating, that won't be easy i know, but got to give it a shot.

My First game - Details

In the previous blog i posted the first game i played on MY CHESS on Facebook. A relatively easy game to play and win.
