Chess Opening

As a student of the game, I have always wanted to get a very clear idea as to what one could achieve in the first few moves of a chess game. As we all know, the possibilities are endless - endless combinations rule the world and the 64 squares. Yet the goal of almost any chess opening remains threefold.

  1. Development of Pieces
  2. Control of the Center
  3. Moving the King to safety
As a starter, one should keep these concepts in mind.

Would appreciate your views and comments as to which Opening should be taken up first.
